Prof. Dr. Alexander Brem, Owner of the Chair of Technology Management, has been appointed IEEE Senior Member. In receiving this special honor, he is joining a selected few. Less than 10% of all members achieve this level of professional recognition. IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity.

With Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg celebrating its 275th anniversary this year, the Schlossgartenfest on 30 June is going to be very special. New this year – tickets are available to the general public and not just to those associated with the University. Guests will even have the opportunity to try the FAU anniversary beer ‘Helles Köpfchen’ (bright spark).

For his habilitation thesis "The Digitalization of Work and Life: Empirical Studies of its Bright and Dark Sides", written at the Otto-Friedrich-University Bamberg, Prof. Dr. Laumer, Schöller Endowed Professorship for Information Systems (Digitalization in Business and Society), has been awarded with the VHB Young Researcher Award 2018.

Chile, Colombia, Mexico, and Peru have formed a successful free trade zone in South America called the Pacific Alliance (PA). Its success hasn’t remained unnoticed – 52 states have joined the PA as observer states. Prof. Dr. Gian Luca Gardini, Chair of International Business and Society Relations with Focus on Latin America, talks about the South American free trade zone.

Success for Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg: according to the latest ranking from the media concern Reuters, FAU is the most innovative university in Germany, and is number 5 in Europe. The ranking from Reuters measures innovation on the basis of ten different factors including the number of publications, patent applications and collaborations with industry.

The School of Business and Economics offers over 20 degree programs – one of the most diverse ranges of subjects available in German-speaking countries. Nuremberg is an excellent choice as a place to study. It offers high-quality education, a conducive academic environment, and access to job opportunities for a successful and fulfilling career.

The company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) has given FAU an excellent report in an international and national context, recognizing the employability of FAU graduates in the labour market. FAU was listed for the first time in the Graduate Employability Ranking 2018, gaining a place among the top 200 worldwide. For the ranking, QS assesses 500 universities throughout the world.

With its commitment to supporting young researchers, FAU is strategically expanding its key research priorities, whilst at the same time giving up-and-coming young researchers the best possible opportunities for professional development. The Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) is now funding 24 new tenure track professorships at FAU.

In modern factories, machines are connected via digital networks which means that the entire production process can be controlled rather than just isolated processes. FAU scientists are working with partners from research and industry to develop a cloud platform for industrial service processes for companies to offer and run their services on.

Every year around 4,000 students from all over the world come to FAU to benefit from excellent research opportunities and teaching. To maximise this positive experience for all, FAU Volunteers for Internationals (FVI) organise trips to the Franconian countryside, language meet-ups, hikes and much more during the entire academic year.
