Labor Market and Human Resources
General Program Information
The Master’s degree program in Labor Market and Human Resources:
- is aimed at high-achieving Bachelor’s degree graduates in business, economics or the social sciences.
- prepares students for careers in academia and research, organizational development and human resources, and business and political consulting by providing them with interdisciplinary and methods-based training.
- leads to a Master of Science degree.
This degree program is taught in German. Therefore, a good knowledge of German is an essential prerequisite to successfully completing the degree program. Proof of German language proficiency at DSH 2 level or equivalent is required for admission.

Course content
This research-oriented degree program examines the many aspects of the labor market, the working world and human resources from various perspectives. There is a particular focus on analyzing economic and social topics, answering questions about labor market policy and transferring research results to practice.
The program has a strong empirical and interdisciplinary focus, and also ensures students acquire comprehensive knowledge of econometrics and skills for independent academic work.
Competencies
During the Master’s degree program students develop a profile of transferable skills that includes:
- evidence-based knowledge of the labor market, the world of work and human resources
- a wide range of methodological skills and the ability to conduct independent empirical analyses
- specialist skills in disciplines of business, economics and the social sciences such as labor market and human resources economics, labor market sociology, organizational psychology and human resources management
- the ability to conduct a substantiated analysis of issues related to the labor market and human resources using different perspectives based on their interdisciplinary training
Career opportunities
Graduates typically pursue careers in academia and research, organizational development, human resources administration/development/marketing, or business and political consulting.
Possible employers include research institutes (e.g. GfK, IAB, FAU), the Federal Employment Agency, government ministries, human resources departments in companies (human resources administration/development/marketing), consulting firms and associations (e.g. DVPKOM)
Target group
This degree program is aimed at excellent graduates with degrees in business, economics and the social sciences with the following:
- an interest in issues related to the labor market, the world of work and human resources
- an interest in business, economic and social topics, labor market policy and transferring research results to practice
- an interest in conducting independent and interdisciplinary academic work
- strong analytical skills and an interest in empirical work
- the ability to study literature independently
- good language proficiency in German and English
Please note: students whose are interested exclusively in human resources are advised to choose a Master’s degree program that focuses only on this area.
